TIRANA, Oct  4 /ATA/ – By Maela Marini/ The government’s support for the sector of fishery and the development challenges of this industry throughout the year 2022 was the topic of an extended meeting with entrepreneurs and employees in the fishery sector.

The meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, took place at the fishing port in Durrës, where today work kicked off on the expansion of the docking capacity for fishing vessels, a long-awaited investment and a great relief for fishermen.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister said that we should take the fleet to another standard.

“You have all the experience, you have all the drive you need, we just have to support you. It was out of the question for the fishing community to be involved in funding application processes? Even logistics or fleet renovation is not enough, we need to enhance the standards of fishing ports, as we are doing here today. It’s time for this next phase, after it was guaranteed that the port is yours and there was no real chance to grab it for other purposes, as many tried at the very beginning, but now you have to improve the standard. The good news is that the near future is not much more beautiful than today, because this whole area, as I have shown you, but now we are close to completion and the beginning of work, will turn into a tourist area,” Rama said.

The Prime Minister informed that a fish market will be built here, with the ambition to be one of the most beautiful fish markets in the Mediterranean.
