TIRANA, May 11 /ATA/ -By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Thursday evening that the government is in constant communication with partners about the fiscal amnesty, as it will not take this step unilaterally.

In a televised interview, Rama said that 65% of respondents in the National Council and 90% of Albanians abroad are in favor of the fiscal amnesty.

“This initiative is undertaken not to formalize the money here but the savings of emigrants who have worked in informal labor market. Albania is the last country in Europe that has opened a private bank,” said Rama.

He informed that “we are in constant communication and battle with our partners because we do not want to take this step unilaterally but to exhaust all options.”

“The draft went to Brussels 3 days ago. We don’t want them to support us because they don’t support this for a thousand and one reasons, because they want the money to stay there and not come to Albania,” added Rama.

The Prime Minister announced that there has never been a cap amount of 2 million euros for individuals, but the cap of 2 million applies to companies that are abroad. There are small foreign construction companies that pay Albanian employees half of their wage through bank and half in cash. For individuals, the figure is much smaller,” he added.
