TIRANA, Aug 27 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday that, amid raging fires and the sweltering heatwave, Albania’s human potential has shown it never abandons the country in times of crisis.

Speaking at the National Gratitude Ceremony, where medals and awards were handed out to all forces involved in firefighting and rescue operations, Rama pointed out that planes from abroad are shared with other countries, in line with the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

Countries that cannot manage this type of emergency alone receive assistance from others, and resources are exchanged reciprocally, Rama said.

He also extended special thanks to the United Arab Emirates for their prompt response, sending helicopters and aircraft.

Rama stated, “By awarding medals to 24 soldiers, police officers, and firefighters, we honor Albania itself—a country that has shown that while we still have shortcomings and need to invest in equipment and smart systems, we could not have made it through this scorching summer without sustaining some damage. Above all, we possess a human capital that will never leave Albania in the lurch.”

“This special recognition, and this chapter ignited not only by forest flames but also by words, carries today a single message as its epilogue: even in the face of the fiercest fires, Albania demonstrates proportionate strength. The greater the challenge, the stronger the solidarity, the deeper the sense of commitment, and the more professionally engaged and motivated the people in uniform,” Rama affirmed.

The Prime Minister also stressed the need to enhance the system further, including through technology and preventive measures.

“Looking ahead to future fires when temperatures are lower, and preparing as if facing the next battle with a monster that will only become more ferocious, we must reinforce our human capital and do everything possible to boost financial support,” Rama added.

Rama stated that he responded “positively and with humility to the ministries’ proposals to grant decorations and distribute medals, as a symbolic expression of gratitude and a message to the entire force, which deserves the highest recognition.”
