The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the fire rapidly escalated due to challenging terrain and strong winds, threatening nearby residences and an olive oil factory. Swift coordinated action by ground crews and aerial units successfully contained the blaze, averting a potential disaster.

The operation included the Air Force’s Black Hawk helicopter, which played a vital role in fighting the active fire, while firefighting vehicles, personnel from the Fire Protection, and forestry service workers were actively engaged on the ground.

Effective coordination between Civil Protection units at the local and central levels ensured the protection of both the environment and the safety of residents and their assets.

The National Agency for Civil Protection (AKMC) and the Ministry of Defense call on citizens to remain especially vigilant during periods of high temperatures and strong winds. “Any fire, regardless of its size, should be reported immediately to prevent dangerous situations that could risk lives, property, and the environment,” the statement emphasizes. /j.p/sm/
