Filo described gasification as one of the city’s most important strategic projects, saying it would provide modern energy infrastructure and a long-term solution for heating and energy use.

The project envisages the construction of a modern natural gas distribution network, providing a more efficient option for energy supply and home heating while helping businesses reduce costs.

“Among the most important strategic projects for the city’s future, it will bring modern energy infrastructure and a long-term solution for heating Korçë,” Filo said.

He said the project was expected to benefit households and businesses by providing a long-term solution for heating and the use of energy in industrial and other technological processes.

The investment is also expected to promote cleaner and more efficient energy use, support environmental protection and contribute to Korçë’s sustainable economic and urban development.

According to him, during the summer there has been carried out intensive work to ensure that children attend orderly, safe and comfortable premises.

The works included painting, repairs, infrastructure improvements, as well as more in-depth interventions in several buildings, including the reconstruction of roofs and the modernization of water supply and sewage systems.

Mayor of Korça Sotiraq Filo said that the fire continues to be active, while the steep terrain is making it difficult to intervene from the ground.

“The relevant units are operating with maximum intensity to avoid the further spread of the flames and to protect forest areas, homes and the lives of the local residents,” said Filo, who added that there are suspicions of deliberate arson attack, a rather serious act that damages nature, property and public safety.

In a post on the social media after a meeting with the ambassador of Azerbaijan to Albania, Anar Huseynov, and a representative of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR), Korça Mayor Sotiraq Filo said that two feasibility studies on the project have completed and work on the city’s gasification is expected to kick off in April.

“Work is progressing on one of the largest projects in Korça Municipality,” Filo wrote.

A high-level Socar delegation will visit Korça to unveil the gas infrastructure development for the interest groups and local public. This project involves developing gas infrastructure for the city of Korce in cooperation with Albgaz.

An agreement on cooperation between SOCAR Albania and Albgaz was signed to initiate the project for Korce’s gas infrastructure development.

As reported, SOCAR signed a memorandum of understanding with the Albanian Infrastructure and Energy Ministry and Albgaz on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku in November 2024.

The city’s gas infrastructure development is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2027, with investment estimated at approximately 21 million euros.

Filo wrote that there have been many visitors even in the first days of the new year, who have been amazed by the objects exhibited in this museum.

The collection of the National Museum of Medieval Art contains over 7,000 cult and art icons, mainly icons created in the Early Middle Ages.

This museum center, which is one of the most significant in the country, was inaugurated on April 24, 1980. The museum consists of 4 pavilions, several examination and conservation laboratories, as well as the archive.

The exhibition hall houses about 200 art objects. Filo brought to attention the investments that have been made in this area, in education, water supply, road infrastructure, as well as other larger investments that will be made during the next term.

He emphasized that the sewer system and the Drësnik road are high on agenda for the next term, diversifying investments and opportunities for the village.

Filo added that 90% of municipality funds will be earmarked for investments in rural areas

“In our platform we have prioritized the sewer system and asphalting of the internal roads of the villages. We want to help farmers, especially fruit tree orchard farmers, to reduce the cost of production and your investment burden. For this reason, this new agricultural technological center that we want to establish in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Albanian Development Fund will have a laboratory for the testing of agricultural lands, as well as assist farmers with customized advice, so that every service is done at the right time”, said Filo.

Filo asked for massive support in the May 14 elections, in order to continue with the works started and the projects designed to bring Korca and its villages to a whole new level.
