Rama shared in the social media images from his meeting with Fico, with whom he talked about promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

“It is a pleasure to welcome today President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico”, said Rama.

“The spread of the COVID-19 infection in the past two weeks has dropped to 14% from 35% previously and the average number of confirmed fresh cases has dropped to 28 from 42,” Fico said after a meeting of the Technical Committee of Experts that decided further ease restrictive measures against novel coronavirus in the country.

“Fresh COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in nine municipalities across the country, while the difference in the proportion of males and females with confirmed COVID-19 stands at 48 to 52,” she said.

“Number of COVID-19 hospitalizations remains low, with only 43 patients currently hospitalized, seven of them being treated at intensive care units,” Director of the Public Health Institute said.

“The case fatality rate is currently at 1.9. It is worth highlighting that the test positivity rate has dropped below 1%, or to 0.8% more precisely,” she said.

“One should not forget that the vaccination campaign, which is in full swing, has provided an incredible contribution, and the process is underway to complete vaccination of people over 60 and the essential service workers etc.,” Fico said.

However, the Head of the Public Health Institute warned that despite low circulation of the virus and the recent fall in fresh cases, it is essential that people continue to abide by the measures designed to curb spread of the infection.

Speaking at a press conference of the Technical Committee of Experts on the COVID-19 outbreak situation and the restriction measures, Fico noted the number of patients in intensive care has dropped in two Covid 1 and Covid 2-designated hospitals in recent days.

“The weekly average of the identified COVID-cases has dropped to 135. The number of active cases last time was over 25,000, whereas a total of 20, 586 cases are still active,” she said.

According to her, the vaccination campaign has been on the go, with a total of 433, 628 people having been already vaccinated, or around 16,000 people receiving the vaccines daily.

On his part, the Director of the National Medical Emergency Centre Skënder Brataj said that number of emergency calls the National Medical Emergency Centre has received through its 127 helpline and communication emergency centre from citizens all over the country has slightly increased in recent days.

The first 192 thousand doses of Covid-19 vaccine “Sinovac” arrived at “Mother Teresa” international airport in Tirana on Thursday’s afternoon from Turkey.

Prime Minister Rama, who held a two-day visit to Turkey to conclude the agreement with Turkish distributor on delivery of “Sinovac” vaccines.

Following the arrival of the new vaccine doses in the country, the number of available vaccines has increased paving way for mass vaccination of the population starts with the aim of facilitating the tourist season. //a.i/
