TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, on the second day of the track record of local governments, asked the municipalities to start the process of building a network of centers for converting organic waste into organic fertilizers for agricultural products.

In his remarks, Rama drew the attention of all the mayors who administer areas with significant agricultural production to see first-hand the very significant experience in the municipality of Cërrik, where the mayor with a group of experts and with the support of donors has managed to transform all raw organic waste into organic fertilizers.

He said that “organic fertilizer is better and more useful and more cost-effective from a financial point of view than chemical fertilizers, which in addition to soaring prices have downsides.”

“I made a conversation with the Minister of Agriculture and the Minister, together with the mayors of Fier, Lushnja, will hold a meeting with the mayor of Cërrik in the presence of experts and donors to see firsthand this experience ,which also has another amazing advantage, which is clearing the spots from these waste, which are thrown into the canals or on the street and to start a process of building a network of these centers for transforming organic waste into organic fertilizer for agricultural products. This has brought about an environmental transformation of Cërrik municipality, but also a commitment of the producers themselves, who until yesterday threw away all the production that did not enter the marketing line,” said Rama.

“All the remaining part of the production that were not packed due to the quality were thrown away, today it is picked up and taken to the processing point to convert organic waste into organic fertilizer and make the soil very nutritious. This is an important example and the component of agriculture under the SP government should be strengthened,” he said.

Rama also emphasized that the whole process in Cërrik was developed by the mayor without knocking on the door of the government, except those in the donors’ offices.

“Bear in mind that initiatives of ecological nature, or those related to energy efficiency and culture nature are initiatives for which, if you have the right idea and project, but you need support. We need to get a special meeting lined up where all components dealing with projects and extra funding related to donors present the whole possible package of potentials to be accessed. But what is important is that it was piloted in Cërrik”, said Rama. /j.p/sm/
