TIRANA, December 23 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting today with the Olympic Committee and the Albanian federations for the new sports program in schools and universities, where he presented the plan for the sports movement in schools and universities.

Rama stressed that next year we will have to start implementing this plan.

“There are a number of points that I think should be addressed in order to start the implementation of this plan. The government plans to spend in the next year’s budget 500 million lekë, or 5 million dollars on it”, Rama emphasized.

“In Albania we have a considerable number of sports clubs, sports teams, sports groups, in many disciplines that today operate in a kind of unsystematic jungle. There are thousands and tens of thousands of girls and boys, small children, young people who participate in these activities and of course there are also the parents who pay for training, for the sports development of their children”, said Rama.

“It is time for all these clubs, all these teams, all these organizations to be formalized and to create a complete map of all sports activities and at the same time to create a system of responsibility and accountability on our part. And when I say from our side, I mean the federations, which are key to monitor the technical aspect, the Olympic Committee and the relevant government structures”, said Rama.

Rama added that, “At the time when we played basketball, or played volleyball or any other sport, the number of gyms was ridiculous”.

“Today, we have a considerable number of gyms throughout Albania, which are of optimal standards and we have a very good basis to develop the activity of the school sports movement”, said Rama.

While definitely, continued the head of government, “we need to continue to increase the number of gyms. We are doing an inventory of all gyms on a single database, as well as all open sports fields in a single database. In the meantime, we have asked the municipalities to make available to us all the potential spaces for the construction of new sports fields or facilities “./a.a/p.s./
