TIRANA, Jan 25 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a statement to the media after a meeting with Socialist Party local leaders on Wednesday, denied any connection between him and the case being investigated by the US Department of Justice into a former FBI official.

The government head stated that he personally and the government of Albania have nothing to do with the conclusion of the probe into a secondary issue that has emerged in the process, while the main investigation issue is a completely different issue related to the charges and the indictment against the former FBI official.

“Zero charges and zero relation between the issue in question and me or the government of the Republic of Albania,” PM Rama told reporters at the SP Headquarters in Tirana.

“People are normally used as local public opinion is divided into a part that automatically believes what they wish to believe, and another part that listens and reflects over the facts. This case has been investigated by the American justice that doesn’t issues ruling over unsolved homicides or negligent homicide, when the killings are committed from the windows of the state institutions and the US doesn’t spare anyone. Zero charges and zero implication in the concrete case between the issue in question, me in person and the government of the Republic of Albania. Zero!” Rama stated.

The government head said that the accusations leveled by the opposition are just derivatives of local misreading.

“The fact that the name comes up as part of a meeting or another has nothing to do with the findings and the conclusions of the probe conducted in the US. So, an investigation has been conducted in the United States and conclusions have been drawn and all the conclusions have nothing to do with all of these you are saying. Did you meet a senior FBI official? Yes, I did. This is not a reason for anyone to jump into new conclusions by seeing with binoculars of Tirana politics to confuse people and cause uproar, moreover at a time when fresh shocking evidence has surfaced on the January 21 events and the request by the Minister of Justice and the Socialist Party to the Special Prosecution office to open an investigation. Whoever wishes to understand, they do so,” Rama went on saying.

The Premier declined to comment, saying he can’t comment on comments.
