TIRANA, Sept 21 /ATA/ Albania is hosting the 42nd Conference of the FBI National Academy Associates’ European Chapter (FBINAA), attended by 235 FBI representatives and law enforcement officials from across Europe and beyond.

Speaking at the event, Interior Minister Ervin Demo said Albania’s selection as the host of the conference reflects recognition of the country’s progress in security and law enforcement.

“In an institution like the FBI, nothing is left to chance, and Albania’s selection to host this meeting is no coincidence. For us, it is an important recognition of the progress we have made, which would have been impossible without the United States standing alongside us,” Demo said.

Minister of Interior Ervin Demo highlighted Albania’s progress in security and law enforcement, attributing much of the strengthening of institutions such as SPAK and BKH to close cooperation and support from the United States.

Demo emphasized that organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime are increasingly transnational threats that require sustained cooperation among countries and law enforcement agencies.

“In today’s world, organized crime, terrorism, and cybercrime have no borders. Criminal networks, illicit assets, and hybrid threats are moving faster than ever. No country or institution, no matter how strong, can ensure security on its own,” he said.

According to Demo, international partnership is essential to ensuring security and combating organized crime.

“International partnership is not simply a choice, but a necessity. For Albania, the increasingly positive results in the fight against organized crime are a direct outcome of this cooperation,” Demo said.

He said that the number of joint investigation teams has increased fivefold over the past five years. Last year alone, the State Police carried out more than 100 joint operations, involving over 22 joint investigation teams with partner countries, as well as Europol and Interpol.

Demo highlighted progress in confiscating criminal assets and improving crime detection rates, emphasizing that effective international cooperation is built on institutional trust.
