TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/- One of Tirana streets will be named after Fatos Baxhaku, a pioneer of the Albanian media after the 90s, who passed away three years ago, at the age of 55.

At the reception hosted in the city hall, the Tirana mayor Erion Veliaj told the family members that today the capital is honored to pay tribute to an outstanding representative of Albanian journalism.

“It is an honor for me to pay tribute to a friend, to a brother. Fatos Baxhaku belonged to a generation that is second to none. I would like this generation of journalism to hand over the baton to others, but clearly a lot has changed from the time when journalism was an ideal, when the profession was more about mission than accounting at the end of the month, when being a mentor of speaking well of someone, promoting a young generation, was a duty on top of all tasks in the sense of not only passing on a craft or profession, but the knowhow”, said Veliaj.

The Mayor said that his legacy is a challenge for every single person who holds a public office.

“The challenge for the rest of us is to live a life of dignity, so that tomorrow we can be representatives of the best our nation represents, as Fatos was, the decent representative of our nation. This applies not only to journalists, but also to those who do my job. Everyone should ask themselves a question: Am I living a life of dignity so that tomorrow I will earn the respect of anyone in this city. We are very grateful to Fatos for his contribution, for everything he represents. He belonged to more than one family,” Veliaj said.
