According to a report published by FAOSTAT – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Albania ranks first in the region, including Croatia, in the production of cucumber, tomato and watermelon, while it ranks second in terms of fruit production.

According to FAO, Albania has produced a total of 942.2 thousand tons of vegetables. The largest amount of agricultural products is dominated by tomatoes. Last year farmers produced over 299 thousand tons, followed by a large amount of production of other products such as melons.

The agricultural sector had a major impact on the country’s economy. In 2020, the share of GDP increased significantly to 19.3% of Gross Domestic Product, fueled by the sharp decline suffered by other sectors services and trade due to the pandemic. //a.i/
