TIRANA, Nov 2 /ATA/ – Albania held a state funeral on Sunday for former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, remembered by his family as a visionary leader who “built bridges, not walls” and believed deeply in a European future for his country.

Senior officials, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, attended the ceremony at the Congress Palace in Tirana, along with family members, friends and hundreds of citizens. Nano died on Oct. 31 at the age of 73 after a long illness.

His widow, Xhoana Nano, spoke of her husband as a man of integrity and conviction.

“This is the darkest day of my life,” she said in an emotional tribute. “Fatos was more than a historical figure – he was a true and honest man who hated populism and believed in European values.”

She described him as compassionate and forgiving, adding: “He walked through the mud of politics without becoming stained by it. He never did anything halfway – not his work, not his friendships, not his love.”

Their son, Sokol Nano, said his father was both a leader and a mentor.

“He taught me about democracy and courage. He believed politics was about responsibility, not personal conflict. He built bridges and not walls,” he said.

Nano, who served five times as prime minister, was regarded as one of the most influential figures in Albania’s post-communist transition.

TIRANA, April 14 /ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha presented today in Durrës the candidates of the “DP-Alliance for a Great Albania” for this region.

During his speech, Berisha focused on the DP program for pensioners. Berisha said that there will no longer be a pension in Albania below 200 euros, while adding that pensions above 200 euros will increase by 20%.

Regarding salaries, Berisha said, “Minimum salaries will increase from 400 to 500 euros. Average salaries will increase to 1200 euros. Teachers’ salaries will increase to 1500 euros”.

“In the first 100 days, there will also get introduced the compassion package”, said Berisha.

Berisha promised that, “In addition to the 200 euros minimum living wage, the pensioners will also have a consumer card to get food 20 percent cheaper”, said Berisha.

Berisha also focused on domestic production.

“Great Albania is not a project if we do not guarantee a strong economy. Albania will be a producing country. Albania is a country blessed with extraordinary reserves, underground, aboveground, tourist and versatile wealth”, said Berisha.

Further on, Berisha stated that, “We believe in your free initiative; we will transform public assets into your assets”.

“We will halve taxes everywhere, and even more than halve”, said Berisha.

Berisha also promised “stimulating, favorable policies for the return of Albanians from the diaspora”.

According to the DP leader, “Great Albania will never be built if young people do not fulfill their dream on this land. Great Albania is the Albania of the dreams of young Albanians”.

“Albania becomes great only when it reaches the greatness of the Albanian family, when the Albanian family is a solid family, a family of values, a family of vision and education”, Berisha said. Berisha underlined that “Great Albania requires cleaning its house and I am here before you to solemnly pledge zero tolerance towards organized crime”. /j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, January 17 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted today after some comments on the news published yesterday that a 1-year-old child from Gaza with health problems is receiving medical treatment at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center in Tirana.

Through a video message, Rama said that the family came from Gaza at the request of the international partners and as a result of appreciation of our pediatric service.

The prime minister explained further that several families from Gaza, one of which came to Albania, were taken to several European countries where the pediatric service is evaluated highly.

Rama also replied to comments alleging the absence of healthcare for Albanian children, while bringing to attention the fact that every year in Albania 46 thousand children are treated in our pediatric wards.

15 thousand of them, according to him, receive service at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center (QSUT), where an average of 2400 children are successfully operated.

Rama emphasized that every year, the government sends an average of 25 children abroad for treatment.

Rama also focused on the new programs for child care with free vaccinations every year, with dental services being offered again in the schools after tens of years, etc./j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today from Brussels that “we will continue to work even harder to make Albania a good member of the EU”.

While publishing on social networks the family photo from the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which took place in Brussels, Rama said that “we Albanians are not good enough to give up nicely”.

“Nice place nice people nice words nice pictures and just imagine how much nicer could be if nice promises were followed by nice delivery… But we Albanians are not as nice as to give up nicely! So we will keep going and working even harder to make Albania a nice EU member”.

The high-level conference with the Western Balkans was held a day before the EU Council session, which is expected to decide on the integration of the countries in the region.

Albania and North Macedonia are waiting for the opening of EU accession negotiations, which requires the lifting of the veto by Bulgaria./m.m/j.p/p.s./
