Investment inflows into the sector totaled 134 million euros in the first nine months of 2025, central bank statistics showed.

The figure was down 17% from the same period a year earlier, marking a second consecutive annual slowdown in inflows into the sector.

TIRANA, Dec 26 /ATA/ – Albania’s extractive industry is the second largest recipient of the foreign direct investment (FDI) after the real estate sector, data from the Bank of Albania showed on Tuesday.

Official data show that FDI inflow in the country’s extractive industry amounted to around 200 million euros in the January-September period.

However, the FDI share in the extractive industry slightly fell by 1% compared with the same period of the previous year. The FDI inflows mainly include reinvested profits of existing companies in the activity of crude oil extraction.

Although the real estate sector and the extractive industry remain top recipients of the FDI inflow, the country’s financial sector was the main contributor to the FDI inflow this year.

Central bank released Friday the official data, showing that extractive industry attracted the highest FDI inflow of 55 million euros, registering a nine-fold increase compared to the same period last year.

The extractive industry is the top recipient of the FDI inflow estimated at 95 million euro or around 20 % of the share of the total FDI in the first half of 2021.

Finalization of a series of major investment projects in the country’s energy sector have taken the extractive industry to the top FDI recipients, recording the largest foreign investments share mainly in the crude oil production.

The investment inflows in this sector consist mainly of reinvested profits of existing companies in the crude oil extraction activity.
