TIRANA, May 3 /ATSH/ Liquefied gas for Albanian producers will be excise-free for a period of 3 years.

Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, during a round table with stakeholders, said that we will lobby hard for changing the scheme and that the government is ready to address all the issues that ease the burden on the business.

“Regarding the excise on gas, there is a calculation, which is part of the budgeting process under the Ministry of Finance, and therefore the adjustment of the planned scheme takes a lot of lobbying. However, we are ready to address all those issues that might ease the burden in domestic and foreign business. We will give a breathing space to the private sector for a period of 3 years. It will be regulated by an agreement which aims to strengthen positions in the regional market and to boost competitiveness in the most transparent way”, said Balluku.
Balluku, also made a reference to European practices, whereby when liquid gas is used for heating, the excise rate is zero, while when it is used in industry and construction, the excise duty is 21 euros per ton.

“There are different practices. By implementing these practices according to the nature of the economic development at the moment, we will address your demands that we deem legitimate. We will need a very fast process”, she said.

The excise duty of 6 lek per liter on liquefied gas entered into force from July 1,2022.
Balluku called the introduction of the liquid gas excise for business 2 years ago a regressive step.
