TIRANA, July 30 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama shared Tuesday a video clip and excerpts from the speeches delivered by key party officials and cabinet members during the Socialist Party’s congress on Sunday, saying the ruling SP is the only political party that can govern Albania and make the country prosperous.

A 19-year old IT student, Helena Kaçe, who has attended the Political Academy at the Socialist Party, in her remarks at congress she called on Rama’s government to further increase pensions.

The SP congress over last weekend focused on both the party’s internal affairs and the government’s achievements and challenges. Key party officials and government ministers delivered speeches, addressing a range of issues from anti-corruption efforts to EU membership aspirations.

Several cabinet members took the stage to present progress reports on their respective portfolios. They shared updates on economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and social services, portraying the government’s commitment to creating a more transparent and efficient administration.

The second session centered on the fight against corruption, a critical issue for the government. Officials discussed strategies to combat corruption and improve public trust in governmental institutions. The introduction of the Operator of Procurement Services was highlighted as a key structural reform, aimed at reducing corruption by separating technical and political functions.

Fatmir Xhafaj, recently appointed chair of the anti-corruption commission, assured that the new commission would not undermine ongoing judicial reforms. He emphasized the importance of good governance and the rule of law for Albania’s EU aspirations. “The new reform does not threaten the judicial reform. Those spreading such misinformation are afraid of both. We believe in what we say and will continue to fight for it.”

Adea Pirdeni, Minister of State for Public Administration, confidently stated that Albania aims to be the newest EU member by 2030. She cited significant achievements in public administration and service delivery. “Albania ranks first in the region for digital public services, with 3.1 million Albanians registered on e-Albania. The transformation of public administration and the anti-corruption drive are essential for our progress.”

Majlinda Dhuka, Albania’s chief negotiator for EU membership, provided an update on the country’s EU accession efforts. She emphasized the significant progress made and the ongoing work to meet EU membership criteria. “Our goal is to fulfil the objectives and sit as equals at the EU table. Albania opened negotiations based on merit, beyond internal political rhetoric, thanks to genuine, deep, and uninterrupted reforms. We are on a clear path to strengthen the rule of law and deepen judicial reforms.”

The SP Secretary-General Blendi Klosi noted that 34 000 young people have joined the governing party recently, taking the party’s active membership to over 100,000.

Elisa Spiropali, Minister for Parliament, who has been already proposed to take over as Parliament Speaker, called the congress a golden opportunity for self-assessment. She stressed the importance of new visions and strategic goals for Albania’s future. “Many eyes are on this congress, expecting it to be a melting pot of new visions. This is a solemn moment for reflection and evaluation of our achievements, driven by public trust and our commitment to strategic goals.”
