TIRANA, June 7 /ATA/ It took 4 weeks of excavations to bring to light new traces and data about the Illyrian city in Bushat of Shkodra.

The excavations were led by ass. prof. Saimir Shpuza of the Institute of Archeology in Tirana and Prof. Piotr Dyczek from the University of Warsaw in Poland, in collaboration with the archaeologist of DRTK Shkodër, Helidon Sokoli.
In the follow-up to the previous campaigns which unearthed two entrance gates of the city and provided important insights into its extent, this year’s excavations are focused on the upper city and are aimed at discovering its urban planning layout.
The research mission has found out that this part of the upper city has been massively built since the middle of the 4th century BC, according to preliminary dates.
The activity in the field aims to fully discover the layout of these buildings and then manage to identify the role they have had.
Albanian-Polish excavations in Bushat are expected to continue for several years in an effort to bring to light as much as possible the form and history of this city.
Now, thanks to the cooperation between the Archaeological Mission and DRTK Shkodra, the technical file is being drawn up for the designation as “Archaeological protected area” A and B, thus completing the archaeological map of the area of Shkodra with an ancient city and archaeological site that can be visited in the future.
