Pëllumbi was a founding figure of the Socialist Party and played a prominent role in Albania’s post-communist political transition.

He served as Speaker of Parliament from 2002 to 2005 and was regarded as an influential actor in the party’s transformation during the 1990s.

He also served multiple terms as a member of parliament, representing the south-eastern city of Korçë.

Born in 1936 in Korçë, Pëllumbi held a doctorate in philosophical sciences and graduated in philosophy. He spent much of his career as an academic at the University of Tirana, where he lectured in philosophy and political science.

Known for his academic background, he was also a participant in key political debates during the post-1990 transition period.
