TIRANA, May 11 /ATA/ The Slovenian city of lzola will host the sixth annual Adriatic-Ionian Regional Strategy Forum (EUSAIR) on 11 and 12 May, organized by the Slovenian authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government Office for European Development and Cohesion Policies as well as the European Commission with support from EUSAIR Facility Point.

About 1000 participants are expected to attend the event, including in-person participants who will be present at the Forum, as well as other participants who will join the Forum via the online platform.
Ahead of the Forum, the Slovenian Minister at the Government Office for European Development and Cohesion Policies, Zvonko Černač, sent a video message thanking EUSAIR partners for their ongoing efforts to create a strong, inter-connected and sustainable region. He also welcomed the Forum’s novelty, the Windmill of Excellence Award initiative. This award, according to him, will stimulate the expansion and implementation of macro-regional efforts and goals. Minister Černač called for active participation in discussions on the topics of blue growth, connectivity of the region (transport and energy networks), as well as environmental care based on quality solutions for ecological tourism.

Slovenia holds the EUSAIR Presidency until May 31 this year focused on green integration, as Slovenia together with Bosnia and Herzegovina are coordinating the thematic pillar on environmental quality.

One of the main objectives of the Presidency is to improve the quality of livelihoods along the shores of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, as well as to step up environmental efforts related to the four thematic pillars of EUSAIR on the road to a green future.

The EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission and endorsed by the European Council in 2014. The Strategy was jointly developed by the Commission and the Adriatic-Ionian Region countries and stakeholders, which agreed to work together on the areas of common interest for the benefit of each country and the whole region.
