TIRANA, Sept. 23 /ATA/ – European Week of Sport is being held from September 20 to September 30 as part of the European “BeActive” initiative, which promotes physical activity and healthier lifestyles.

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja highlighted the role of sport in bringing communities together and promoting solidarity, respect, equality and inclusion.

“Sport is one of the most beautiful languages that brings Europe together. It brings us closer, includes us and teaches us the values of solidarity, respect, equality and a more active society,” Gonxhja said.

As part of the initiative, people are encouraged to take part in physical activities regardless of age or fitness level. Walking, running, playing sports with friends, joining community activities or trying a new sport are all promoted as ways to increase physical activity in everyday life.

Gonxhja said the “BeActive” initiative was open both to people who regularly practice sports and to those looking to become more physically active.

“Let us make sport part of our daily lives, not only during this week but every day,” he said.

European Week of Sport is part of the European Commission’s “BeActive” initiative, which promotes physical activity, inclusion and more active lifestyles across Europe.

In Albania, activities are being held under the slogan “Be Active. Be Inclusive. Be European”, with the main programme running from September 23 to September 30.
