During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the longstanding partnership between Albania and Eurojust, which has delivered tangible results in investigations into complex criminal offences, including drug trafficking, money laundering and online fraud, Lamallari said.

Lamallari praised Eurojust’s support for Albanian institutions and highlighted the important role played by Albania’s Liaison Prosecutor in enhancing judicial cooperation with European Union member states.

The Minister said Albania would continue to be a reliable partner in joint efforts to promote security, justice and the rule of law, adding that support for judicial institutions remains essential as the country works to meet European standards as part of its EU integration process.

The meeting took place within the framework of ongoing cooperation between Albanian institutions and European justice agencies aimed at strengthening efforts to combat cross-border criminal activity.

SPAK chief Altin Dumani and special prosecutor Dorina Bejko attended the meeting, which brought together prosecutors from four Western Balkan states and 11 Latin American countries.

In his remarks, Dumani underlined the importance of effective cooperation and rapid information exchange with partner agencies.

“SPAK has moved from being an agency that mainly received information to an institution that supplies international partners with verified and operational data, becoming a genuine contributor to security,” Dumani said.

During the event, Dumani also held bilateral meetings with counterparts from Paraguay, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

According to SPAK, the agreements and bilateral contacts aim to strengthen cooperation in combating organized crime, particularly drug trafficking.

This meeting was part of a wider three-day event that brought together senior judicial representatives from Latin American, Western Balkan and MENA partners, in one of the largest assemblies of third-country partners ever hosted at Eurojust.

The meeting focused on strengthening operational cooperation between these regions and the EU, and among the regions themselves. This joint effort aims to reinforce collective responses to serious and organised crime, which continues to evolve with an increasingly transnational dimension.

SPAK Chief Special Prosecutor Altin Dumani is paying an official visit to The Hague, the Netherlands.

SPAK’s press service said on Wednesday that the Chief of the anticorruption body and the Eurojust President discussed results and the ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two rule of law agencies.

According to SPAK’s report, in context of the “Bricklayer” operation, there were blocked more than 200 bank accounts.

“The operation was focused on “Trafficking of narcotics”, committed in collaboration as a structured criminal group,” reported SPAK.

“The Joint Investigation Team established between the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime and the Prosecutor’s Office of Florence, Anti-Mafia Section, Italy, with the mediation of EUROJUST carried out the investigation of this criminal file. Italian and Albanian authorities have taken action against a large drug trafficking network operating in both countries. With the support of Eurojust and Europol in a large-scale operation, today 67 suspects were arrested in Albania, Italy, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom and other preventive measures were taken in Italy against 12 suspects. The network mainly trafficked heroin, cocaine, hashish using cars with double floors or secret compartments”, reported SPAK. /r.e/p.s./
