TIRANA, July 30 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, in a posting on social media, reacted on Sunday in connection with the devaluation of the euro, raising the question of whether this devaluation has enriched the Albanians and businesses.

“This question should be asked by anyone who is surprised or feels some sort of pride that today the lek is stronger than the euro. If this appreciation has enriched Albanian businesses and families more, this devaluation of the lek is undoubtedly in the best interests of our country,” said Tabaku.

But, according to her, the numbers say otherwise. “In fact, Albanian businesses that have employed Albanian families have spent 31 million euros more this year due to the devaluation of the euro. This means more costs for businesses, wage cuts and why not job losses,” she said.
Meanwhile, according to her, so far the Albanian government has collected 373 million euros more from taxes as a result of the devaluation of the euro, that is, less income in the citizens’ pockets.

“So, who takes advantage of this devaluation that is not the result of economic growth, nor does it enrich Albanian families? Definitely corruption! Undoubtedly a captured state that circulates informal millions enriching a minority and keeping a majority in poverty, hitting the middle class and deepening inequality,” Tabaku said.

“This is a success story for the state only, while those hit the hardest are the companies that export, domestic and foreign tourism alike and of course immigrants,” said Tabaku.
