TIRANA, June 18 /ATA/ – The EU Council updated Friday a list of third countries, including Albania, the residents of which should be permitted to travel freely to the European Union and Schengen Area.

Based on the criteria and conditions set out in the recommendation, as from 18 June 2021 member states should gradually lift the travel restrictions at the external borders for residents of the third countries.

However, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs informed that following the recommendation, citizens must carefully read the decision made by every member state to lift travel restrictions.

“Be careful! Some of the EU member states may resort to specific guidelines following the most recent recommendation and therefore you should read updated information on a case by case basis,” the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs said.

The Ministry told Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) today that it has ordered Albanian embassies in EU member states to maintain continued contacts and inform about any updated information regarding the decisions made by these countries about free travel for Albanian residents.

The Council said in its recommendation that the list is reviewed every two weeks and, as the case may be updated.

The criteria to determine the third countries for which the current travel restriction should be lifted cover the epidemiological situation and overall response to COVID-19, as well as the reliability of the available information and data sources. Reciprocity should also be taken into account on a case by case basis.
