Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja emphasized in a post on social media that, “The Progress Report for Albania 2024 clearly demonstrates that our path toward the European Union is more solid than ever.”

Manja highlighted that, particularly in Chapter 23 “Judiciary and Fundamental Rights,” Albania has shown sustainable development moving up in its assessment score.

“Chapter 23 ‘Judiciary and Fundamental Rights’ marks another level of assessment, providing Albania with sustainable support in the justice reform,” emphasized Manja.

He stressed that “the Ministry of Justice is fully committed to completing the ‘homework’ outlined in the EU progress report, which serves as Albania’s roadmap for integration into the EU.”

Among the achievements highlighted in the report, Manja emphasized the vetting process, which is nearing completion at the first instance, having a generally positive impact on the independence and accountability of the judiciary.

Another achievement is the strengthening of fundamental rights through the adoption of a strategy for the protection of crime victims, as well as enhancing access to justice through comprehensive and accessible legal assistance.

The progress report also highlights the development of sentencing alternatives, where probation service is operational and provides alternatives to imprisonment, especially for minors.
