Parliament Speaker Nikolla thanked Santos for her work and reporting in the European Parliament the transformative, democratizing and integrating achievements of Albania and especially for her contribution to the decision of the European Parliament for the opening of accession negotiations and holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference with Albania.

“We have worked relentlessly to achieve this, but you have worked hard to support our achievements in the European Parliament and we are very grateful for that. Despite the delays, we are committed to advancing the European agenda and European accession remains our top priority,” Nikolla said.

EP Rapporteur for Albania, Isabel Santos, said that Albania is a trustworthy and committed strategic partner of EU.

“The EP took a fair decision . Albania has continued the fundamental reforms related to the EU and it is right that the Council consents to open the delayed negotiations with Albania,” said Santos.

The conversation focused on the major political developments in the country. Highlighting the progress so far, the MEPs underlined that it is important for Albania and the Assembly to continue the work for advancement of the reforms, as well as implementation of all the recommendations in the progress report.
