TIRANA, Jan 31 /ATA/ The European Union presence in Albania has launched a project today in partnership with the Department of Journalism and Communication at the Faculty of History and Philology (University of Tirana).

The project titled “Promoting Freedom of Expression in Albania through Open Dialogue,” funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, aims to initiate an open dialogue process regarding Albania’s commitments to addressing key issues related to freedom of expression and media freedom.

According to the post on EU social media account, the project aims to focus more on media ownership and independent journalism, the safety of journalists, press freedom violations, and access to information.

“This project is an opportunity for a truly whole-of-society approach to the reforms Albania needs to adopt in the media sector. All relevant stakeholders can come together to decide on the best model that fits the Albanian context, drawing from the best practices and standards found in Member States within the European Union. The EU is committed to supporting Albania in this complex exercise.

There is no road towards EU integration without freedom of expression as a fundamental right in a democratic society.” EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato said.
