TIRANA, Oct 16 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke on Monday about the investment plan in the Western Balkans, emphasizing that they are significant, but only 10% are grants and 90% are loans, while the mechanism for accessing them is outdated and slow-paced.

In the opening floor at the Berlin Process Summit that is taking place in Tirana, Rama said that he is not asking for equal financial benefits for non-EU countries or a fast-track accession process.

According to him, “a merit-based process towards full membership must continue to our benefit.”
“Albania appreciated from day one the indisputable added value it can provide and has played its part, but the truth is that while we have made efforts to remove tariffs and other essential efforts, the process has been held back by long-term bilateral issues between several countries in the region,” he added.

Rama emphasized that “our EU neighbors have received at least over 4,500 euros per capita, while our countries receive 138 euros per capita.”

“These figures are initial proof of the frightening scale of a class gap that has widened and progressively deepened our division in the same house of Europe, in the same year when overlapping crises have hit the continent. While the magnitude of those crises has brought us even closer on a political and human level,” he emphasized.
