TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ – Students from across Albania gathered in Tirana on Thursday to understand better how the European Union works in practice.

This event, which we organised together with the College of Europe and the Institute of European Studies (University of Tirana), allowed students to learn from top experts how the three EU institutions – European Parliament, Council, Commission – negotiated the European Media Freedom Act, a key piece of EU legislation.

The EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato, said in his remarks that as Albania gets closer to the EU, it’s crucial for the younger generation to understand how the EU works.

“The European Union is not just a bureaucracy, it is a vibrant political system founded on democratic values and robust checks and balances. Today, Albanian students had a chance to experience first-hand the consensus-driven nature of EU governance and its complexity,” he said.

“I hope it inspired them to pursue further studies or careers in this field,” EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato concluded.
