TIRANA, Sept 16 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Brussels today, where four new chapters were opened, bringing the total number of chapters opened in the negotiation process to 28.

Accompanied by the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, the Prime Minister was introduced to the “enlargement scoreboard” which visually displays Albania’s milestones in the European integration process.

The Prime Minister assessed that with the opening of these four chapters, “Albania has taken another step forward on the path towards the EU.”

“We are opening 4 new chapters, bringing the total to 28 chapters opened—a record pace in the negotiation process. Congratulations to the negotiating team and all Albanians!” Rama said.

For her part, Commissioner Kos explained Albania’s progress on the enlargement scoreboard, which reflects the status of each cluster in relation to the accession negotiations.
“Certainly, now we are focused on this part because it truly is an exception to the way we used to do this. Albania has progressed so quickly! When I arrived in December, almost everything was marked in red. Red means it hasn’t been opened yet, yellow means it’s opened, and green means it has been provisionally closed,” Kos said.

“It seems that we have just opened another cluster. Dear Prime Minister, dear Edi, it is your honor that as I remove the red marker, you will apply the new color,” she added.
After the opening of these chapters, only 5 chapters remain to be opened for Albania.

Commissioner Kos assured that they will be opened within this year, according to the plan.

“I strongly support your plan to conclude the negotiations, meaning that all chapters will be colored green by 2027, and then, of course, to have you in the EU as soon as possible. For me, your personal commitment—because this is tied to leadership—and that of your team, which is progressing well, is deeply impressive; not only you but the entire team. Congratulations once again! It is truly a privilege for me to work with you,” she emphasized.

In his remarks, Rama expressed gratitude to the EU team in Albania for their constant oversight, ensuring that we remain focused and maintain a realistic perspective without overestimating our capabilities.

Cluster 4, opened today, covers key areas such as the green transition, environmental protection, clean energy, and sustainable transport connectivity, which lie at the heart of the European Green Deal and the EU’s strategic priorities.
