TIRANA, September 29 /ATA/ – By the end of 2025, Albania’s installed photovoltaic capacity surpassed 600 MW, with solar power now accounting for approximately 11% of the nation’s total energy volume.

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Enea Karakaçi made the statement during a visit to Erseka, where he inspected the investments in a photovoltaic park firsthand.

“We are visiting a project that clearly demonstrates the developments in the energy sector over recent years, where the diversification of sources has significantly boosted our energy capacities,” said Karakaçi.

The minister emphasized that developing new energy generation sources is a key priority of energy policy, leading to a diversification of the country’s energy mix.

The investor reported that the park became operational about two years ago and has a generation capacity of 20 MW. When including the other solar farm and the substation, the total investment reaches approximately €30 million.

According to the investor, both parks have performed well in terms of energy generation and the company is currently expanding its operations with a new project, “Solar 3.” He also highlighted that energy sales prices have been favorable.

Energy produced by “Solar 2,” which has a capacity of 20 MW, is traded on the ALPEX exchange, whereas previously, the energy generated by these parks was sold on the open market. According to the investor, the entire park management system is digitized.

Karakaçi stated that energy produced by these parks is currently sold on the exchange at approximately 105 EUR/MWh, whereas under the state-mandated scheme, the price will be 53.3 EUR/MWh for a 15-year period.

According to him, this scheme secures annual revenues of around 4 million euros for the state while providing the business with a more stable foundation for the investment.

The minister also addressed changes to the energy sector’s legal framework, noting that the new law mandates the inclusion of battery storage systems to enhance flexibility and generation capacity from renewable sources.

Karakaçi announced that another auction for photovoltaic energy is expected to be held in late 2026 in cooperation with the EBRD, continuing the expansion of renewable energy capacities. /e.xh/r.e/a.f/p.s./
