TIRANA, Aug 8 /ATA/ Regional hospitals and summer health centers operating in tourist areas provide medical services and healthcare for citizens and tourists across the country.

Health Minister Albana Koçiu said on Friday that the Durrës Regional Hospital and seasonal health centres along the coast are running full-time, providing health care for locals and the thousands of summer visitors flocking to the city.

Koçiu noted that the hospital ER is on 24/7 duty, backed by extra staff and modern equipment, handling around 270–300 patient visits and check-ups every day.

“From trauma cases and cardiac emergencies to beach incidents, medical staff remain on standby as health safety continues to be our top priority,” Minister Koçiu stated in a social media post.

A physician at Durrës Regional Hospital reported that patient influx has been on the rise since June, coinciding with the kickoff of the tourist season.

“We’re handling about 270–300 cases every 24 hours — mostly kids, seniors over 60 who need to watch out for heat stress, and individuals with pre-existing conditions,” she noted.

The doctor advises citizens and at-risk groups to limit outdoor exposure to between 8:00–10:00 in the morning and after 18:00 in the evening.

“You need to stay well-hydrated, drink plenty of fluids, eat safe foods, and cut out fast food, as it can cause more cases of food poisoning or diarrhea,” she added.
