Deputy Foreign Minister Artemis Malo was invited to present the draft law to the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In her remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister noted that Albania’s adherence to EPA aims at meeting one of the main commitments to condemn the unprovoked Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“It is also part of Albania’s obligation to defend sovereignty of Ukraine and human rights. Albania has supported the Council of Europe decision on establishment of the register of damage caused by the Russian aggression,” she said.

In May this year, the Council of Europe Summit created the Register of damage for Ukraine as first step towards an international compensation mechanism for victims of Russian aggression.

In his speech, Basha highlighted the fight against corruption as the main priority of the DP, under conditions when Albania is the highest-ranking country in Europe, according to the “Transparency International” report.

Further on, Basha said that his party is working on electoral and territorial reform in Albania.

“We are focusing all our attention and energy to move forward with reforms that will enable Albanians free and fair elections of a local administration without political conflicts. Electoral and territorial reforms, the fight against corruption and the rule of law are our main priorities,” said the DP chairman.

Basha also spoke on Kosovo, the region and the tense situation between Ukraine and Russia.

Basha demanded that these turbulent times be an incentive for Europe to pay more attention and exert a greater influence on the recognition of Kosovo by countries that have not yet done so and the conclusion of the agreement on mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia so that to enable both countries to join the EU as soon as possible.

Basha stressed that the peoples of the region, without distinction, want to look forward to their common European future, and leave behind the tragic past.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Basha stressed that the Democratic Party fully supports the efforts of the EU and the USA for a diplomatic solution.

“We must stand side by side in our Euro-Atlantic alliance in the face of this dangerous challenge not only for Ukraine itself, but also for Europe and beyond,” Basha said.

“War should never be an option, so it remains the duty of political leaders to use all diplomatic means and put aside the threats of war,” he said./p.s./
