TIRANA, September 28 /ATA/ Albania is increasingly seen as an attractive country for the construction of wind farms for the production of energy from renewable sources.

The Ministry of Energy announced that the company, a temporary merger of companies “EU GREEN ENERGY” sh.p.k., “A.91” sh.p.k. and “WINPHARMA” sh.p.k., has expressed interest and submitted the application for the construction of a wind farm for the production of energy from renewable sources, with a capacity of 20 MW, which does not benefit from support measures, in the administrative unit Jorgucat, in Gjirokastra.

The Ministry opened in the middle of this year a competition process for plants for the production of electricity from wind energy with high capacity and location on land.

The competition gives the opportunity to bidders to propose projects which have a minimum capacity of 10 megawatts and a maximum capacity of 75 megawatts. The pre-fixed price will be set for 100 megawatts which will be purchased by the government for consumption and the ceiling price will be 75 Euros per megawatt.

In the first phase, there will be verified the technical experience, financial resources and legal position of the companies that will enter the competition. In the second phase, there will be reviewed the financial offer.

To help investors, the government has made available a study, funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), with the support of the EBRD. This technical report recommends potential areas with wind energy and avoids through maps all protected areas and those where wind farms cannot be located.

According to the study, 20% of the Albanian territory from north to south at an altitude of over 150 m above sea level results to have the potential for construction of these parks. /j.p/p.s./
