TIRANA, May 2 /ATA/ – Albanian government has approved four anti-pollution bills that would significantly stiffen fines and administrative measures against individuals and companies violating environmental and air pollution laws.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro said in a press statement after a regular cabinet meeting on Thursday that the government has adopted amendments to the laws on air pollution, environment protection, the biodiversity protection and the effects on environment.

Under the new legislation, the fines will be raised by 30% against individuals and entities that cause air pollution.

According to Kumbaro, the legislation is devised to increase administrative penalties in the existing environmental legislation by 30% of the fine value, based on the findings of the national consultation process, which found that 70% of the respondents demanded stronger administrative measures.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment added that under the new legal changes, the administrative measures against those violating the air pollution laws will become executive titles so that they can be executed immediately and the fines can be collected more effectively.

According to Kumbaro “in addition to the obligation to the Albanian citizens, the measures are part of the country’s European Union integration and the tourist Albania vision.”
