TIRANA, Feb 19 /ATA/ The Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, in a media briefing from the Presidency of the Assembly, said that the draft law tabled by the majority to pave the way for strategic investments in the protected areas will cause considerable harm to them.

According to Tabaku, this draft law, which is being discussed in the parliamentary committees, tabled by the socialist MPs, is intended to wipe out the protected areas.

“Destroying them, as foreseen in the proposals that have been tabled, or dismantling their status as protected areas means reversing years of work done by many environmentalists and volunteers to conserve our natural wonder. In fact, the proposals presented by the socialist colleagues and also by the government are not only an attempt to upset the ecological balance and above all the legacy of our ancestors who left us for these countries, but also the biggest betrayal of our children,” Tabaku added.

“While the second proposed draft aggravates the ecological crime even more by paving the way for construction in these areas that will now turn into vulnerable plots of land to be covered with concrete. Such a move not only runs counter to our international commitment and breaches the directives of the European Union, the conventions signed by the Albanian governments over the years, but also paves the way for a development that is more harmful than beneficial to those areas. This is a short-sighted approach that can offer short-term profits to a handful of people and will ultimately condemn the majority and the future of the country”, emphasizes Tabaku.
