INSTAT published on Thursday the preliminary results of the Structural Enterprise Survey for 2020.
The closure of businesses as well as the restriction on movements due to COVID-19 pandemic was the main cause of the decline in activity during 2020.

Referring to INSTAT, in 2020, 102,564 active enterprises exercised their activity, decreasing by 1.5%, compared to 2019, while the total number of employees decreased by 5.2%.

Based on the preliminary results of the Structural Enterprise Survey, the producers of services were hit the hardest with a negative impact of 3.1%, followed by the producers of goods with 2% percentage points.

Meanwhile, the trade sector accounted for the highest share of net sales which is estimated at 48%, followed by the construction sector with 12%.
