The EEN, established in 2022, aims to help members share experience on the current state and functional models of encyclopedias, identify areas for improvement and cooperation, and strengthen the role of encyclopedic institutions in providing reliable, verified and accessible information.

ENN also seeks to support the preservation of national and cultural identity at a time of rapidly growing and often unreliable information sources, and to ensure the financial and technical sustainability of major projects.

The network includes some of Europe’s most established encyclopedic and lexicographic institutions, such as Italy’s Treccani, Germany’s Brockhaus Enzyklopädie, Croatia’s Miroslav Krleža Institute and others.

QBEA’s accession marks an important step in sharing expertise related to encyclopedia and dictionary development, two flagship projects of the Albanian Academy of Sciences.

The centre currently supports three major projects on Albanian studies, namely the History of the Albanians, the Comprehensive Dictionary of the Albanian Language and the Albanian Encyclopedia.
