TIRANA, Nov 15 /ATA/ – Albania coach Sylvinho said on Saturday that the national side faces a “very difficult” challenge in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier against England, describing Thomas Tuchel’s team as one of the main contenders for the 2026 title.

Speaking at a pre-match news conference in Tirana, the Brazilian coach noted that England have scored 20 goals and conceded none in the qualifying campaign so far. “This shows how strong and well-prepared they are. It will be a very tough match for us. They are one of the best national teams and clear contenders for the World Cup,” he said.

Sylvinho said Albania, who have reached the World Cup play-off stage for the first time, are a team “in growth” and must enjoy the moment. He also reflected on the narrow win over Andorra, saying the squad had expected a defensive opponent.

The coach addressed his sideline exchange with striker Armando Broja during the Andorra match, saying the issue was resolved.

Asked about Broja’s positioning, Sylvinho said the forward had played “very well” against Serbia and brings balance between attack and defence. He added that Myrto Uzuni is versatile in several roles, while Broja prefers starting from the right and cutting inside.

Sylvinho added he feels “proud” to coach Albania despite arriving in a country where he did not know the language or culture. He said Albania will likely spend more time defending and try to capitalise on counter-attacks against England’s offensive style.

Albania face England at 18:00 on Sunday in their final Group K match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, to be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
