TIRANA, July 1 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama described the construction of the Karavasta Photovoltaic Park as a success story, which the Albanian state benefits at the most favorable price.

At the start of the works on this park, Rama emphasized that “after a long preparatory work, we have entered the final phase, which is the construction phase of the largest solar energy park in the Balkan region.”

“I am very glad that by chance, yesterday I met with the President of France in Madrid and we talked about Voltalia’s commitment in Albania, about today, and about the continuation of Voltalia’s investment with another photovoltaic park in the area of Spitalla, which is in the preparatory phase,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister emphasized that “the process has been really challenging, but also a beautiful success story, starting from the price.”

“An unimaginable price at that moment for the viability of the Albanian state, less than 25 euros offered by Voltalia, but a price that is beyond any power of imagination today when the situation and conjuncture have changed radically and here with great respect, I avail myself of the opportunity to say to the company and the management staff that we highly appreciate their correctness, seriousness and willingness to continue even in such a challenging situation, when the project itself was threatened by the mind-boggling change in the conjuncture,” Rama said.

The photovoltaic park of Karavasta will be the largest solar park in the Western Balkans, with a capacity of 140 megawatts, turning Albania into a key country for increasing the potential of clean energy.

This investment exceeds the value of 100 million euros and starts operation in the second half of 2023, covering the annual energy consumption of 220 thousand inhabitants, which is double the consumption of cities like Vlora or Kamza.

This major clean energy project will avoid emissions of more than 96 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to 9.5% of the emission of the Albanian industrial sector./m.m/sm/
