TIRANA, Sept 14 /ATA/ – The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy has launched a campaign in several schools across Albania, in events aimed at increasing public awareness of energy saving potentials amid the global energy crisis.

The Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, attending the start of this campaign during a meeting at Lasgush Poradeci school in Kombinat, Tirana, urged pupils to learn some simple energy-saving habits and prudently use electricity at their homes, especially in the face of the crisis that has gripped the world.

“Saving energy at times of crisis is an obligation for everyone,” Balluku said.

Commenting on the ongoing energy crisis, Balluku noted that the crisis deepened further due to the war in Ukraine and the climatic changes.

“The prolonged drought this year has reduced electricity generation capacity of the hydropower plants,” she noted.

Balluku underlined that power generation at the hydropower plants currently meets around 70%of the domestic needs and the country is forced to import the rest of electricity at an incredibly high price at the international stock markets.
