TIRANA, April 14 /ATA/ President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stated on Thursday at the meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Baku, that there is great potential for increase of cooperation in the sector of energy between the two countries.

Aliyev said that the visit of Albanian PM is a testimony of the high level of political dialogue between our two countries.”

“We have met up many times. We have also communicated by phone as well as on the sidelines of international events,” said Aliyev.

“As part of bilateral meetings, we will discuss developments in the region, which are high on the European agenda. We will also touch on issues of bilateral relations, will exchange information and talk about the figures of trade turnover, which is quite modest, but has the potential to grow, ” he said.

“Another topic under discussion will be cooperation in the energy sector. For more than a year now Azerbaijan has been an exporter of natural gas to Europe while Albania has strongly supported this initiative. Meanwhile, your high-level representatives have always participated in the meetings of the Consultative Council of the Southern Corridor and have contributed to implementation of this project. So we are part of a team, which has successfully implemented this historic project, given the importance of the southern gas corridor, especially the Transatlantic gas pipeline. I think that now this is more tangible than ever,” said Aliyev.

“This sector has great potential for cooperation. Our representatives are holding meetings on our broader portfolio of energy cooperation, which includes natural gas, transit supplies and electricity. “It’s really the highlight of our bilateral agenda,” Aliyev said.

“I am sure that what is already under discussion will result in new developments. I also think we need to use this opportunity to talk about other areas of mutual interest,” Aliyev added.

“There are great potentials in the field of tourism either. It is needed a broader partnership to give further boost to this sector and to achieve good results in the future,” Aliyev concluded.
