TIRANA, October 13 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the culture of impunity in Albania has come to an end and no one is above the law.

Rama answered questions from journalists during a joint press conference with the European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defense Thomas Byrne, following the 10th Albania–European Union Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg.

When asked by a journalist from “The Kyiv Independent” about investigations into high-ranking officials, Rama stated that the system has begun to function and the justice system is doing its job.

“I think you and your country can fully understand what it means when we speak of situations where the justice system does its job. This is what we need. The fact that you are aware of this shows that the system has started to work,” Rama said.

Meanwhile, the prime minister recalled that, “When we began this journey, we were known as the home of the culture of impunity.” “We come to this building today—recognized as a leading institution—precisely because the culture of impunity has ended and no one is above the law. Our transition from a system governed by corruption to one dedicated to combating it has brought us here to close this chapter; we shall return to close those that remain. It is a matter of perspective,” said Rama.

The prime minister emphasized that he derives the inspiration and momentum to move forward from this location, noting that from the vantage point of this building, this represents how things ought to be.

TIRANA, Nov 25 /ATA/ – Holta Zaçaj, who on Tuesday concluded her term as judge and head of Albania’s Constitutional Court, presented a three-year performance overview, highlighting what she called record workloads and key institutional decisions.

In a statement, Zaçaj singled out the resolution of a long-debated issue on the length of constitutional judges’ mandates, describing it as one of the court’s main institutional challenges. She said clarity on mandates was essential for judicial independence and for the court’s proper functioning.

Zaçaj said the court faced a series of high-impact decisions between 2023 and 2025, reinforcing its role as the guardian of the Constitution. The judges, she added, handled a record caseload, with filings rising by 35-40% over the period. The court reviewed around 400 cases per year, issuing 85–90 final rulings annually, and continued to meet legal deadlines without accumulating a backlog.

She also pointed to developments in the international arena, including Albania’s election in May 2024 to chair the Conference of European Constitutional Courts (CECC) for the 2024–2027 term – the first time the country has held the presidency.

Zaçaj said several long-overdue institutional initiatives had been launched and consolidated over the past three years, strengthening transparency and public communication, including new outreach practices introduced in 2023.

She concluded by expressing confidence that the reforms and achievements of recent years would provide a solid foundation for the court’s future development and its role as the country’s highest constitutional authority.

TIRANA, December 17/ATA/ The National Institute of Cultural Heritage brings into focus of attention the monuments of culture as a reminder of the wonderful values of our cultural heritage and why not as a different alternative to spend the weekend visiting them.

Thus, the Institute highlights the Ad Quintum, a road station along the Via Egnatia.

Ad Quintum is an architectural complex consisting of a Roman villa and well-preserved thermae (Roman Bath) built in the 2nd century and used as a station along the Via Egnatia. Road stations were resting places where travelers or merchants could stop for the night.

Ad Quintum road station is located on the right side of the Elbasan-Durrës national road.

It has a rectangular layout, extending over an area of 130 m2, consisting of several venues. Water was supplied by means of canals from a deposit on the wall and flew out via another system of canals. /p.s./

TIRANA, July 22/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected today the progress of works on Dukaj-Sinanaj road connecting Tepelena with Vlora.

The road aims to turn this area into a tourist and agricultural potential, a source of profit for residents, communities and the national economy.

Accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku and Director of the Albanian Road Authority Evis Berberi, PM Rama said that, “In September, the road will be 100% ready, not only as an important road for farmers and inns of this area, but to turn Tepelena into a distribution point of the tourist movement ”.

Minister Balluku said that, “The works on this road have started in December 2020 and 75% of the investment has already been realized, while there is little left so that to finish the works, within the contractual deadline which is the end of September”.

This is an investment of about 3.7 million Euros, 14.5 km long and is an important tourist road, which helps the agricultural and agro-tourism sector.

The investment was carried out according to all parameters and standards. The road follows the old trail that has been built by the Italians since 1920, but there has been invested in its construction, providing all the technical elements of road safety./p.s./
