TIRANA, Dec 13 /ATA/ Minister of Health and Social Protection, Alban Koçiu, participated on Wednesday in the activity entitled “No to Femicide! Together against gender-based violence”, organized by the Parliament of Albania.

Koçiu started off her remarks with the news that the Council of Ministers has adopted the action plan pursuant to Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council, “Women, peace and security.”

Describing the approval of this action plan as good news, Koçiu said that “the Albanian government committed itself to streamlining gender equality in the agenda of every institution such as defense, public order, in peacekeeping missions, but also abroad.”
According to her, with this plan, women take on the role they deserve, a key role in terms of democracy, maintaining order, peace and stability in our country and in the world.

“We are on track to giving women and girls power and voice in our society,” the minister said.

“As part of the well-being of women and girls, we have been financing for several years now through the Social Fund, community-based services that mainly extend to the local government together with civil society organizations to provide even more counseling services, professional training, housing in cases of emergency or crisis for all girls and women who are victims of violence or sexual abuse,” Koçiu said.

She pointed out that with the 2024 budget, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection will continue to support social protection.
“Fortunately, we have an increased budget allocation for social protection, and we will continue to support such services, especially to give women even more voice, even more strength, to be all together and deliver even more”, Minister Koçiu concluded.
