TIRANA, Nov 3 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, also the leader of the Socialist Party, sought on Sunday the support of Albanians during a meeting in Thessaloniki, promising to secure full EU membership for Albania by 2030.

Rama stated that for the first time, in the 2025 parliamentary elections, Albanians in the diaspora will have the right to vote.

According to him, “Albanians living in Greece do not need to travel to Albania to cast their ballot at the polling stations on election day.”

“This is a special day for me, as today you are not just fellow citizens living abroad who are eligible to vote in Albania, which many have exercised after travelling all the way. Today, you are voters who, for the first time, enjoy the right to vote here from your own home. You know that I have had to work hard alongside my friends to make this promised reality come true, a promise we couldn’t fulfil before because it was impossible without the votes of the other side,” said Rama.

The Prime Minister sought their support in the upcoming spring elections to make Albania a fully fledged member of the EU by 2030.

“I ask for your vote to give Albania the same opportunity you’ve given to your families, to benefit from living within the European family, to enable us, together with Albanians from Albania and around the world, to raise Ismail Qemali’s flag in Brussels within this decade,” said Rama.

Prime Minister Edi Rama also stated that the Socialist Party is the only party that knows how to make a difference, likening the other political parties to “Sude masquerade.”

“If it were left to those other forces—both the old faces and the new ones that try to promise the moon—I can assure you that they are simply masks of Sude. Behind them lies Sude-like political culture. They resemble Sude, who led everyone into debt and then plunged them into the abyss, only to appear later and declare that the game is over,” said Rama.

Rama said that there is no game to be started with any of them because the game for all of them is over.

“Today, Albania is seated at the negotiating table for EU membership. Albania is now an international success story, not only with the highest tourism growth in Europe but also as a host of the EU summits, the Political Community summit next year, and the NATO summit two years from now. Albania has sat on the UN Security Council, held the chairmanship of the OSCE, and on the Human Rights Council at the United Nations,” added Rama.

Addressing Albanian immigrants in Greece, Rama stated that what Albania offers today is the pride of being Albanian.

“Never forget that Greece is your home just as much as it is for the Greeks,” he added.

“I’m not here to tell you that Albania is a paradise on earth, because it isn’t. I’m also not saying there are no issues in Albania—there are plenty indeed. We haven’t accomplished everything, but I believe we’ve done enough to earn your trust to keep moving forward and to show that we can view reality from your perspective and know what steps need to be taken for further change. We are the only ones capable of making that a reality.,” said Rama.
