TIRANA, Nov 10 /ATA/ – Albania will begin installing 350,000 smart electricity meters in 2026 as part of a wider initiative to reduce energy losses and improve billing accuracy, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday.

Speaking at the launch of OSHEE Charge, a new public electric vehicle charging service, Rama said the rollout of smart meters marks a transformative step for the country’s electricity sector.

“The investment will lower technical losses in the grid to below the EU average and enhance billing accuracy for consumers,” Rama said, adding that it will address remaining inefficiencies in the current system.

He also announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art energy data center in Albania, operated by KESH, the country’s main power company.

“Although not directly linked to OSHEE, this innovation supports the same goal of modernizing the energy sector and ensuring timely implementation of future infrastructure,” Rama said.

TIRANA, September 8 /ATA/ Installment payment schemes for arrears to the Universal Service Provider (FSHU) and the Electricity Distribution System Operator (OSSH) are proving to be a valuable opportunity for businesses and household subscribers, significantly easing the financial burden and formalizing their relationships with energy institutions.

Over the past year, around 1,000 entities have applied for these schemes, benefiting from a reduction in interest rates from 50% to 100%, as a result of paying off electricity bills in a single installment.

The OSHEE has been implementing new facilitation schemes for the installment payment of arrears from electricity bills since July of the current year.

Through agreements, the OSHEE Group offers the possibility of paying accumulated liabilities until December 31, 2023, supporting the most vulnerable groups and small businesses.

The agreements include: family clients living on economic assistance, head of household pensioners and persons with special status who can repay their liabilities with fixed monthly installments starting from 1,200 lekë.

Other family clients will benefit from fixed monthly installments starting from 2,800 lekë.

In order to maintain an affordable and fair standard, the maximum number of installments will be no more than 240 installments. In any case, the client has the right to choose a payment installment, with a value higher than the minimum value, adhering to the condition of a maximum of 240 installments.

To benefit from the settlement schemes, subscribers must have paid off their obligations for 2024 and the first months of 2025. Those who have new debts during this period must pay them off before applying for the settlement.

The authorities call on all subscribers who have outstanding obligations to benefit from the settlement packages currently offered. /j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, August 10/ATA/ The emergency teams of the Transmission System Operator (OST) and the Electricity Distribution Operator (OSSH) are on full alert and are working intensively on the ground to guarantee the supply of electricity in the areas affected by the fires.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku said today that specialized teams are fully committed to closely monitoring the situation and to intervene where necessary, especially in those areas where the energy infrastructure has been endangered due to the flames.

“We have intervened to solve the problems in the network in the areas of Bistrica, Livadhja and Konispol, where the presence of fires has affected the normal functioning of the transmission lines,” said Balluku.

According to her, there is being paid increased attention especially to 110/35 kV facilities and lines, which, due to their proximity to fire sources, require careful and coordinated intervention by teams of electricians in the field.

“Readiness has also increased in other parts of the country, such as in Çorovodë and Ballaj (Divjakë), where our teams are deployed and prepared to react at any moment”, added Balluku.

While firefighting structures continue their efforts to extinguish fires in several areas of the country, OSSH and OST electricians are in full readiness to intervene as soon as possible to restore electricity after the situation with the fires calms down. /r.e/p.s./
