TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/ – Albania recorded a 151% year-on-year increase in fully electric vehicle registrations in the first two months of 2026, signaling a shift towards cleaner transport, official data showed on Monday.

According to the General Directorate of Road Transport Services (DPSHTRR), 1,712 all-electric vehicles were registered for the first time in January-February.

The sharp rise points to growing awareness among individuals and institutions of the benefits of electric mobility, including lower air pollution, reduced carbon emissions and lower maintenance costs.

The expanding fleet of “green” vehicles is seen as a key step towards a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable transport system, in line with the country’s environmental targets and broader green development policies.

TIRANA, Oct 15 /ATA/ – Albania has seen a sharp rise in the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in the first nine months of 2025, marking a significant shift toward more sustainable transportation and contributing to a measurable drop in carbon emissions.

According to official data, 3,901 electric vehicles were registered from January to September this year – an 80% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Authorities say the growth reflects increasing awareness among both individuals and businesses about the environmental impact of transport.

Electric vehicles with zero mileage accounted for 39.9% of all new zero-kilometer vehicle registrations during the period, up from 28.2% in 2024, 25% in 2023, and just 7.2% in 2022 – highlighting a steady upward trend.

Beyond registration figures, officials point to the environmental benefits as a key achievement. From January to September 2025 alone, EV usage is estimated to have prevented over 13 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of planting more than 452,000 trees.

The progress strengthens Albania’s commitment to sustainable development goals and is expected to support further clean transport policies in the years ahead.
