TIRANA, March 12 /ATA/ – The chair of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Gazmend Bardhi, told reporters in a statement after a crucial meeting on Tuesday that the ruling Socialist Party and the main opposition party had agreed on establishment of the parliamentary inquiry committees.

Bardhi also said that the country’s two biggest political parties had also agreed that a parliamentary subcommittee will press ahead with the electoral reform.

The senior opposition official said that no discussion on justice issues tool place at today’s meeting.

“It is good news that after a five-month long resistance by the opposition lawmakers, after the arrogance demonstrated by the parliamentary majority since October 12, the latter have finally reflected and we have returned to discuss these three issues at the Conference of Chairpersons’ meeting. Talks took place and a decision in principle was made,” Bardhi said.

Bardhi said that the governing Socialists and the opposition had agreed on the establishment of two parliamentary committees, with the first committee expected to look into the contracts awarded by the Ministry of Health and the breach of personal data, while the second committee will investigate interference in the TIMs system that records entries and exits at the country’s main entry points.

The agreement aims to end a five-month parliamentary crisis, restore normalcy to the country’s parliament’s proceedings, which have been marred by a political impasse.
