TIRANA, March 10 /ATA/Prime Minister Edi Rama, also the Chairman of the Socialist Party, stated today that, for the first time, a previously closed avenue has been opened in Albania’s relations with the European Union.

In his address to the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Rama elaborated on the preparations for the team ahead of the May 11 elections.

Rama remarked that this meeting is unlike any other, emphasizing that “the situation, the importance, and the context of these elections are like no other.”

Rama stated, “I believe it is of utmost importance that all of us here, as well as our entire large political family, become more aware of the extraordinary significance of these elections in such an exceptional geopolitical context.”

Rama stated, “I believe that, as I have the privilege of leading this political force, in all nine previous elections, the influence of geopolitics has never been as significant as it is in these elections.”

Rama said that these elections are set in a twofold exceptional context.

Rama mentioned, “One context involves the relationship between us and the European Union, as well as the EU’s ties with Albania and the Western Balkans, while the other pertains to our membership in the Euro-Atlantic alliance and broader security matters.”

“For both of these major reasons,” emphasized Rama, “the May 11 elections are far from ordinary, and the result of May 11 is more than merely the result of political parties, or in our case, it is more than just a victory for the Socialist Party itself.”

Rama stated, “For us, as a political family and for our flag, winning the elections has always been of great importance. However, on May 11, the significance of winning and the outcome itself hold far more weight for the country’s near future than in any of the previous nine elections.”

Rama highlighted, “For the first time, since I’ve been leading the Socialist Party and later the government, a window of opportunity has been opened in Albania’s relationship with the EU that has never been opened before. For the first time, our aspiration and ambition to become a fully-fledged member of the European family are in alignment with the EU’s desire and ambition to welcome Albania into its fold as never before.”
