During a press conference held by the international observers of the May 11 parliamentary elections, Karimi commended SPAK (Special Prosecution Office) for its efforts in investigating electoral crimes.
“SPAK played a positive role in investigating electoral corruption, just as the new coordinating mechanism between the CEC, SPAK, and the General Prosecutor’s Office enabled better information sharing,” said Karimi.
According to her, “this was also perceived as having a possible deterrent effect.”
Pointing out the waiver for many fines and the enforcement of several decisions on social benefits in the run-up to the elections, Karimi stated, “In examining these matters, I want to stress that having an electoral framework in place and institutional capacities is vital for ensuring the proper conduct of elections.”

Talking about the electoral campaign, the Special Coordinator and head of the OSCE short-term observers said, “Citizens were not given the opportunity to hear a genuine exchange of political ideas.”
She stated, “The campaign revolved around hostile personal attacks, particularly from political leaders.”

Karimi also emphasized that the country needs fair politics, not just on election day, but every day. “The Albanian people ensured a peaceful election day. They demonstrated a strong commitment to democracy. I assure you that we are ready to collaborate closely with the newly elected parliament and political forces,” she said. /j.p/sm/
