TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/ After a month of fasting and prayer, Muslims worldwide are celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Sunday.

The holiday marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan. The name “Eid al-Fitr” reflects the tradition of giving alms before the celebration, a gesture of solidarity with the less fortunate, as communities come together to mark the occasion and restore a sense of normalcy.

The day began with a ceremony at Skanderbeg Square starting at 06:45, featuring the recitation of the Quran and lectures, followed by the prayer at 07:30. Later, traditional receptions will be held at the headquarters of the Albanian Muslim Community, from 09:00 to 12:00.

The Eid prayer is a tradition passed down from the Prophet Muhammad, and it is known that a Muslim should not leave it unobserved. The breaking of the fast does not mark the end of prayers and praises to God (takbir), which are encouraged to continue from the end of Ramadan until the Eid prayer is performed.

Muslim believers, who were devoted throughout the entire month of Ramadan, now return to their daily routine, resuming their regular meal times and nightly sleep schedule.

After the Eid prayer, which was held at 7:30 AM following the time change, the believers dispersed to celebrate with their loved ones, marking the end of 29 days of fasting, abstaining from vices, practicing self-discipline, showing mercy to the poor, and increasing their devotion to the Creator.

One of the distinctive features of our country is that the celebration is shared by all, including those of different faiths. However, it is undoubtedly the practitioners of fasting who experience the greatest joy on this holiday, as they feel a profound spiritual fulfillment in having completed one of their most demanding and challenging duties.

Unlike Eid al-Adha (which focuses on meat), Eid al-Fitr is primarily celebrated with traditional sweets. Believers wear new clothes for the occasion, visit family and friends, and greet one another with the wish: “Happy Eid al-Fitr.”

Aldrin Dalipi, Chairman of the Association of District Councils and Chairman of the Tirana District, has extended his greetings to all Muslim believers who have faithfully completed a month of devotion, sacrifice, and reflection.

“May God accept your prayers and sacrifices. Happy Eid al-Fitr,” Dalipi wishes, alongside photos shared on social media from the Eid prayer at Skanderbeg Square, Tirana.
